This superior grade sphagnum moss from Chile has long, thick fibers for excellent water retention. Extremely clean, use for fantastic root growth, basket liner, flower arrangements, alone or in a mix.

Every part of the moss is permeated with minute tubes and spaces, resulting in a system of delicate capillary tubes, having the effect of a very fine sponge. The cells readily absorb water and retain it. The water can be squeezed out, but the Moss does not collapse and is ready to take fluid again.

In Asia it is generally recognised that sphagnum moss is the most suitable growing medium for orchids. The sphagnum moss allows the orchid roots to breath whilst at the same time keeping the orchid roots moist, thus reducing the risk of disease in these precious plants.

The addition of up to 40% by volume of sphagnum moss crumble to peat based soil mixes helps to prevent the tendency of the peat mix to compact, increases the friability of the mix and increases the water holding capacity of the mix reducing the need to irrigate so frequently.

Sphagnum moss can hold up to 17 times its own weight in water which allows the seedlings access to water without causing excessive watering, or wet feet, to damage the seedlings. Sphagnum moss is also a naturally sterile medium so it has a natural tendency to suppress bacteria diseases and improves seedling health.

Plants use a lot of water while they are flowering and using sphagnum moss as a liner in baskets, provides a natural water reserve for the plants during this time, reducing stress on them and making it easier for you to keep them flowering for a longer time.
